What is a Type 21 radiator?
A Type 21 radiator, also called a double panel, single convector radiator, has a front and back metal panel with a single row of convection fins between them.
P plus radiators are ideal for medium-sized rooms, giving off more heat than a Type 11. They are commonly installed in bedrooms.
What is the difference between a Type 11 and Type 21 radiator?
The main difference lies in the number of panels and fins. A Type 11 has one panel and one set of convection fins, making it slim and best suited for smaller rooms or narrow spaces with modest heating needs.
A Type 21, on the other hand, has two panels and one set of fins. This gives it a greater surface area and therefore higher heat output, whilst still being slimmer than a Type 22.
Why should I choose a Type 21 radiator?
A double panel plus radiator is a smart choice if you want efficient heating without taking up too much space. Slimmer than a Type 22, it projects less from the wall, making it ideal for hallways, smaller bedrooms, and other areas where depth is limited.
It also offers higher heat output than a single panel radiator but doesn’t overwhelm smaller rooms, making it an excellent middle-ground option.
How much heat output does a Type 21 provide?
With two panels and a single set of convection fins, a Type 21 produces more heat than a single panel radiator but slightly less than a Type 22. This makes it best suited to small and medium-sized rooms, providing reliable warmth without excessive output.
It’s also a good option when upgrading from older models, as it delivers comfortable heat levels whilst remaining compact. The exact BTU output depends on the radiator’s size, with larger models emitting more heat.
What style and finish options are available?
Double panel plus radiators are available in a range of designs and finishes to suit different interiors. A white double panel plus radiator offers a clean, classic look that fits any space. For something visually striking, a black radiator brings a modern edge, whilst an anthracite finish creates a contemporary, stylish effect that’s especially popular in modern homes.
What should I consider before buying a Type 21 radiator?
Think about the size of your room and the heat output required. For small to medium spaces, a double panel plus radiator is usually sufficient, but you should always use a BTU calculator to check the correct output for your room. For larger living areas, a Type 22 may be a better option.
Depth is another key consideration. Since Type 21s are slimmer than Type 22s, they are better suited to hallways or rooms where you don’t want the radiator projecting too far into the space.
