This Osmo UV Protection Oil Clear Satin 750ml is an exterior wood oil that slows the natural greying of timber left out in the sun. Applied over two coats as a stand alone finish, it blocks greying on vertical surfaces with a UV protection factor of 12 compared with untreated wood. Osmo code 420, the Extra grade, which carries added film protection against mould, algae and fungal growth.

The oil is based on natural plant oils including sunflower, soya, thistle and linseed oil. It leaves a microporous, water repellent surface that lets the timber breathe, regulating moisture to reduce swelling and shrinkage, and it will not crack, peel or flake as the wood moves.

Application Instructions

1. Make sure the timber is clean, dry and frost free with a moisture content no higher than 20%
2. After heavy rain, allow the timber 2-3 days to dry before oiling
3. Strip off any old paint, varnish or lacquer completely, and clean old microporous finishes thoroughly
4. Do not sand smooth surfaces finer than P120, as this stops the oil penetrating
5. Allow fresh or resinous hardwood to weather for 6-8 weeks after installation, and pressure treated timber for 10-12 weeks
6. Refresh greyed or weathered timber with Osmo Wood Reviver Power Gel before oiling
7. Where possible apply the first coat to all faces and edges before installation
8. Stir well before use and do not thin the oil
9. Apply thinly along the grain with a flat brush or microfibre roller, working well into corners and curves
10. Leave to dry for approximately 12 hours with good ventilation
11. Apply a second thin coat in the same way

Storage

• Store in the closed original tin, with a shelf life of 5 years or more
• If the oil has thickened through frost, stand it at room temperature for 24 hours before use

Safety Note

• Please note this product is flammable and contains a film protection additive which may cause an allergic reaction. Cloths soaked in the oil can self-ignite, so after use lay them out flat to dry completely or seal them in a metal container before disposal

Product Disclaimer

• Osmo UV Protection Oil Extra is intended for vertical exterior surfaces and is not suitable as a stand alone finish on horizontal surfaces such as decking, where water can sit. Vertical elements mounted on horizontal timber should be set at a minimum 15 degree angle to shed water. Oak and chestnut are rich in natural tannins which can blacken when exposed to moisture, sunlight and iron. Inspect the coating at least once a year and recoat after roughly 3-4 years, sooner on heavily weathered elements such as weatherboard, post caps and window sills
