Newel posts are used as uprights in a decking system to support the handrail of the stair banister. When used on a straight flight of stairs, newel posts are placed at the bottom and top of the stairs. When there is a long run of banister, it also serves a purpose of strengthening the structure by being used as an intermediate post. It is also used for design purposes especially in turns, landings or long run structures, to give the elegant look you want. These are available in three different profiles, Chamfered, Patrice and Colonial.
