The Dark Red Meranti FAS grade Kiln Dried timber is generally supplied with 10 - 14 percent moisture content. All boards have had all waney material machined off.

The appearance is of Heartwood colour, which is a medium to dark red - brown tone. The sapwood can be distinctly paler sometimes with a greyish tinge. The item has a coarse texture with interlocking grain, that can be used for external and internal joinery and for shop fittings. The working properties are for machines which are well Pre bore and suitable for nails and screws. Wood paints and stains can be applied to a good finish.

The item does glue well, with small movement occurring in service tools which would need to be kept sharp to avoid producing a woolly surface. Physical properties are medium strength and hardness, medium bending with poor steam bending and medium crushing strength. Low stiffness durability and is moderately durable.
