Mapetex Matting is an anti-fracture membrane for problematic substrates including mixed substrates, timber (plywood, chipboard, T&G floorboards) and cracked substrates.
Product Information
Mapetex Matting is an anti-fracture/decoupling membrane for use under ceramic, porcelain and stone tiled floors. Prevents cracked tiles installed over flexible substrates.
Key Features
Surface Preparation
The substrate must be dry (except green concrete and sand:cement screeds), clean, flat, mechanically strong and solid. It must be free from adhesion inhibiting substances such as dust, laitance, grease, wax etc. Existing floor finishes must be firmly bonded or must be removed. Hairline cracks within concrete or screed are acceptable but penetrating or active cracks must be repaired. Ensure that cracks in screeds are restricted to the screed only and are not continuous within the underlying concrete. Penetrating cracks in concrete should be assessed by a structural engineer.
Recommended Systems
Precut Mapetex to size using a utility knife or scissors and loose lay in position. Bond Mapetex to the substrate using Keraquick & Latex Plus. Use a suitable notched trowel to spread the adhesive prior to laying Mapetex. Ensure Mapetex is firmly pressed into the wet adhesive preferably using a roller. Ensure the Mapetex is fully bedded and that the open time of the adhesive is not exceeded. When used as an anti-fracture membrane Mapetex can be laid either way up. For best results it is recommended that the sheets are overlapped by 10 cm. For mosaics, mapetex should be butt jointed. When the adhesive has hardened, time dependent on the adhesive, the tiled finish can be installed. The choice of adhesive will depend on the size and type of the tile to be fixed and the original substrate. Floors can be grouted will all MAPEI cementitious grouts.
Consumption
1m² cuts
Technical Characteristics
Mapetex is produced using a special technique. The material fibres ensure high mechanical strength and a surface that ensures the best interaction with MAPEI adhesives. Mapetex copes with lateral movement within substrates.
Key Features
- Resistant to alkalis
- Resistant to atmospheric agents
- Dimensionally stable
- Light and easy to handle
- Easy to cut
