Decking newel posts are used as uprights in a decking system to support the handrail of the stair banister. Where used on straight stairs of flight, newel posts are placed on the bottom and top of the flight. It is also used as intermediate post in the decking system where there is a long run banister. It serves a purpose for strengthening the structure and used for design purposes especially in turns, landing or long run structures. To give the elegant look you want they are available in three different profiles, Chamfered, Patrice and Colonial newel post.

if you are installing the newel post to a new decking, the Newel post can be fixed to the inside of the joist with 175mm decking screws. For the existing decking you will need to half cut the bottom of the Newel post then half overlapping to the decking board and screwing it to side using 175mm decking screws. Metal post brackets are also available which is bolted to your deck and the Newel post is then pushed in to place and screwed in.
