T & G Flooring Grade Chipboard or P5 is a moisture resistant structural grade flooring grade board. It is used generally in flooring applications as the construction of the board adds strength when boards are slotted together and screwed or nailed down to floor joists. It can be used in all general flooring applications, kitchens and bathrooms included. It is suitable for domestic applications and has a sanded smooth surface and will accept all types of floor covering. Also because of the density of the product it helps with insulation when used with a suitable acoustic or thermal slab type insulation. The narrow sheet size enables the product to be handled easily particularly in tight spaces such as lofts.

Questions & Answers

    • Hi,

Can you lay ceramic tiles direct onto this or does it require a layer of marine plywood in between?

      Thanks,
      Matt
    • Ideally, this product requires battens or joists to be screwed to.

    • I think there's been a bit of misunderstanding here. I think you originally interpreted my question as asking whether the chipboard was suitable for laying on top of a tiled floor, which wasn't what I meant.

What I'm asking is, can you lay ceramic tiles on top of the chipboard or does it require marine plywood attaching on top of the chipboard first before you then lay the tiles? I need to know this in order to know what height to set the new floor I'm installing at you see.
    • Good morning, technically you can lay on top of chipboard. However, i would advise a sheet of 3.6mm ply on top prior to tile adhesive being applied.

Excellent product for flooring. Go the extra mile and use sound proofing tape on top of the joists and use sound proofing underlay when carpeting.
